Plan assistance-dog travel
with Jet2.com.

Check the route and training evidence before committing to travel.

Independent planning guidance for proposed Jet2.com journeys. Airline acceptance, accessibility law, government entry and veterinary fitness are separate checks; confirm every operating carrier.

Ordinary pets are not carried

Jet2’s passenger policy carries qualifying assistance dogs where permitted, and excludes other animals onboard.

For an ordinary pet, arrange another carrier or transport method before buying tickets. Assistance-dog status is not a way around a pet restriction. Describe the dog’s actual assistance role and training accurately.

Training evidence, including self-trained dogs

Jet2’s June 2026 guide accepts training by accredited Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) members, Assistance Dogs Assessment Association (ADAA) accreditation, or documented equivalent-or-higher standards. Its self-trained-dog section requires training evidence and the handler’s written declaration of disability-related tasks. Send training confirmation before departure. Emotional support alone is excluded.

The shorter web page specifies IGDF-accredited organisations or organisations meeting ADI’s full-membership criteria.

Use the detailed guide when discussing an owner-trained or independent-trainer case. Ask Assisted Travel to assess the evidence you actually have and confirm acceptance in writing. A purchased certificate, ID card or another airline’s approval does not settle this booking.

Contact Assisted Travel early

Jet2’s dog-specific terms request contact at least seven days before travel: 0333 006 8798 or +44 203 059 8337. Section 12’s 48-hour assistance wording is general; section 13 gives the longer dog notice.

The Assisted Travel page offers requests during booking or through Manage My Booking, plus telephone and WhatsApp contact.

Use the seven-day planning lead time and speak to the team if booking later. Ask where to send the training records, handler declaration and travel documents, which forms apply, and how the dog’s acceptance will be recorded. An online assistance request alone should not be treated as approval.

Check each route and direction

Jet2’s terms make carriage subject to national restrictions.

Before purchase, provide the departure, transit and arrival airports, operating flight and return journey. Ask whether the dog can travel on every sector and whether an airport or country needs separate pre-approval. A network destination or available passenger seat is not confirmation of assistance-dog space.

Floor space, equipment and charges

The terms provide free dog carriage in the accompanying passenger’s floor space. An extra seat may be needed for room and may attract a charge after the team’s assessment.

CAA CAP2990 applies to UK departures and UK/EU-carrier arrivals into the UK. Paragraph 88 says safety-required extra space through a seat should be free; comfort alone does not require a free seat.

CAA passenger guidance recommends a safety harness for take-off and landing.

The reviewed dog-specific guidance does not publish a numeric passenger/flight quota, a separate dog form, or a leash/muzzle protocol.

Ask the team to confirm the dog count, floor area, restraint and any muzzle requirements, public-behaviour expectations and what happens after an aircraft change. If an extra seat is proposed, ask whether it is needed for safety, welfare or comfort and request the charge decision in writing. Veterinary and border costs are separate.

Resolve the travel-document wording

Jet2’s web page names a pet passport; its June 2026 guide names an Animal Health Certificate. Both also require microchipping and rabies vaccination.

Do not assume either document works for every international journey. Ask Jet2 and the responsible border authority which document is valid for the dog’s origin, destination and return route. Use an official veterinarian to check the animal-health timeline.

GOV.UK says assistance dogs must meet normal dog-travel rules. These include the applicable microchip, rabies, blood-test, tapeworm and document requirements.

Arrange the Great Britain arrival check

GOV.UK lists Jet2.com for airports with an approved assistance-dog checker. It advises confirming continuing approval and departure airports with the travel company, and supplies checker contacts.

Contact the checker for the actual arrival airport early. Confirm advance documents, inspection arrangements, hours, costs and the plan for delays. Keep this clearance separate from airline acceptance. Great Britain covers England, Scotland and Wales; use the correct authority for Northern Ireland or another destination.

Before departure

Keep the operating itinerary, written airline decision, seating and equipment confirmation, original travel documents and checker instructions together. Reconfirm after any route, carrier or aircraft change. The service-dog reference and connection checklist help organise the remaining questions.
