Start with the travel format

  • Cabin: the pet travels in an accepted carrier with the passenger, subject to the operating airline’s rules.
  • Accompanied hold: the pet is accepted through the passenger airline’s animal-baggage process.
  • Separate cargo: a live-animal shipment has its own booking, acceptance and handover process.

Having a passenger ticket is not the same as holding a confirmed pet reservation. Identify each operating flight, including connections, and request confirmation for the animal and its actual container.

Prepare the details that decide the route

Have the pet’s breed, age, weight and measurements ready, together with the carrier’s dimensions and loaded weight. Add the cities, dates and whether you will travel together. Ask how restrictions on breeds, aircraft, transit stations and temperatures affect the proposal.

Genuine trained assistance dogs follow separate eligibility and booking processes. Those arrangements should not be used to reinterpret the ordinary-pet limits.

Keep the other planning checks alongside the airline rules

Use our carrier guide for measurement and fit, destination guides for entry preparation and cost guide for the wider transport budget. Airline acceptance does not replace government entry or transit permission.

For airlines not yet covered by a full guide, use our official airline policy links. For a managed move, request a route and quote.

Using the official sources

Detailed guides show their official-source check date. Directory entries identify unfinished policy reviews. Confirm the current conditions for the actual flights; a past journey or another airline’s exception does not establish present acceptance.
