For Luxair-operated sectors. Partner airlines, government entry and route-specific assistance-dog recognition need separate checks. Independent planning guidance; no guarantee of airline acceptance or border clearance.
Start with every operating airline
Before paying, prepare flight numbers, dates, species, breed, age, animal weight, loaded-carrier weight and external measurements. Ask for written animal-space confirmation, documents, charges and connection handling for every sector. Recheck after an aircraft or itinerary change.
Luxair’s carriage conditions explain that a partner-operated codeshare can have different animal rules. An LG flight number or a single ticket does not establish acceptance by the operating airline.
Confirm who receives and hands over the animal at a transfer, whether collection and re-checking are needed, and which transit-entry rules apply. A passenger reservation alone is insufficient.
Booking, contacts, forms and airport timing
Book pets at least 72 hours ahead online, via agencies or telephone. Counter check-in. Recommended arrival: two hours ahead. Bring signed H402 (cabin) or H184 (hold).
Customer Service Centre: +352 2456-1. Use the contact page to check available contact options.
The pet FAQ accepts requests through the contact form with breed and weight. Package travellers should obtain hotel approval before booking.
Direct bookings use Luxair My Bookings or Luxairtours My Bookings.
Ask the booking office which online route applies to your Luxairtours booking, whether the animal request is confirmed rather than merely submitted, and which airport deadline applies. Read the declarations before signing.
The airline links an April 2023 H402 from its ordinary-pet section and a March 2024 H402 from its assistance-dog section. Both have passenger, booking, animal and itinerary fields. Ask which version to use; keep completed copies.
H184 is a carriage waiver with outbound/return flight details and a passenger signature. Review its liability provisions; it is not a veterinary health certificate.
Cabin pets and carrier-size discrepancy
H402 covers dogs/cats up to 8 kg including the carrier. Minimum age: 12 weeks, or 15 weeks to/from Germany. The animal needs natural standing, sitting, turning and lying room. Keep it contained on the floor in front of your seat throughout; the carrier must resist leaks and escape and have four-sided ventilation.
The current fare sheet lists two carrier options: 45 × 23 × 25 cm or 45 × 42 × 20 cm, length × depth × height.
Both H402 versions list only the first size.
Resolve that mismatch before buying a carrier or relying on the wider, lower option. The published maximum does not make a cramped carrier acceptable.
One cabin pet in one carrier per passenger; accompanying pet owners sit in different rows. Unaccompanied minors cannot bring cabin pets.
The ancillary conditions exclude passengers travelling with cabin animals from emergency-exit seats.
Hold limits, crates and breeds
Hold: maximum 50 kg including crate; one animal per crate.
The fare sheet gives a maximum hold crate of 115 × 60 × 85 cm, length × width × height.
IATA’s general guidance requires space to stand and sit upright, turn normally and lie naturally. Container suitability must be checked with the airline. Its linked current container requirements are a useful preparation reference.
Snub-nosed pets are excluded from the hold; listed dangerous dogs require special hold crates.
The breed categories overlap. Have Luxair assess the exact breed or cross and the proposed crate together; special construction does not establish eligibility. Check the airline’s full construction checklist, including fastenings, ventilation, bowls, lining and wheels. Ask about aircraft-door fit and any weather restrictions.
Ask a veterinarian about fitness to fly, feeding and medication. Do not choose sedatives from general travel advice. For an unaccompanied shipment or an animal above these limits, obtain a separate transport assessment rather than assuming a passenger-hold booking will work.
Flight quotas are separate from passenger limits
Aircraft quotas: three cabin pets; one hold pet on Q400, two on Boeing/Embraer. No shared crates.
Confirm remaining space on the actual aircraft, any dog/cat combination restrictions across separate carriers, and how an aircraft substitution affects acceptance. Mixed-species aircraft acceptance remains unconfirmed. Do not read the flight quota as a per-passenger allowance or a service-dog limit.
Route exclusions and an Ireland conflict
Ordinary pets: excluded both ways for United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Senegal; no hold carriage to/from Paris Charles de Gaulle.
The pet FAQ additionally lists Ireland as excluded.
Get written clarification for Ireland before paying. The main page instead discusses Dublin preparation. Do not treat the more permissive wording as confirmed acceptance. Check both directions and every connecting carrier; service dogs follow the separate section below.
Published charges and payment checks
The current fare sheet lists cabin pets at EUR 80 in Economy, included in Business, and hold pets at EUR 140. Prices are per segment/one-way. These are selected airline charges, not the complete cost of a managed relocation.
An ordinary additional-baggage purchase does not cover animal carriage; special animal fees apply.
Confirm the total for each animal and sector, payment channel, cancellation/refund conditions and what happens if animal space is unavailable. A paid passenger ticket or quoted pet fee is not route approval.
Service dogs: recognition and advance notice
Luxair carries guide/assistance dogs without an animal fee. Notify its Customer Service Centre or travel agency at least 48 hours before departure and request assistance early.
Luxair lists a government medal/passport for Luxembourg dogs and IGDF/ADI evidence for dogs registered abroad. Request SVAN registration. Emotional-support dogs follow pet rules; no additional cabin pet accompanies a service dog. Ordinary size/weight limits are waived; no carrier needed.
Ask for the itinerary-specific status evidence and document-submission instructions. Individual/owner-training acceptance remains unconfirmed. Obtain a written assessment rather than purchasing a generic certificate. A vest or certificate alone is no admission guarantee.
On journeys within EU Regulation 1107/2006’s scope, recognized assistance dogs are accommodated subject to national rules. The regulation does not create one universal training certificate. Its airport-assistance provisions require reasonable efforts when advance notice is missing.
Ask how many service dogs can be accommodated for your passenger and aircraft; Luxair’s service-dog count remains unconfirmed. Confirm safe space for each dog and do not substitute the ordinary-pet quota.
Service-dog routes, UK recognition and U.S. connections
Service dogs: excluded to/from UAE and Senegal; London City/Manchester acceptance is conditional.
The UK registered-airline list covers Luxair arrivals at all airports with an approved assistance-dog checker. This is a border-checking arrangement, not confirmation that a particular Luxair flight accepts your dog. Ask about the chosen airport and arrange checks with its listed provider.
For UK-covered journeys, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) guidance is broader than an Assistance Dogs International (ADI)/International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF)-only rule: it includes Assistance Dogs Assessment Association (ADAA) accreditation or evidence of equivalent or higher training standards. It calls for training evidence and a handler declaration of disability-related tasks. Psychiatric task-trained dogs are included; emotional support alone is insufficient.
For an individually or owner-trained dog, ask Luxair to assess the evidence against the applicable UK framework and explain any refusal. The broader guidance does not itself confirm this airline’s acceptance of your dog.
Great Britain’s government guidance requires assistance dogs to meet ordinary dog-entry rules as well. Give the airline at least 48 hours’ notice, check its requirements, and arrange the arrival-document check. If timely notice was impossible, reasonable efforts are still required; unsafe carriage can remain a barrier.
For a connecting flight to/from the U.S., check that operating carrier’s DOT process. DOT recognizes individually disability-task-trained dogs, including psychiatric service dogs, while excluding emotional-support animals and dogs still in training. Airlines may require the DOT transportation form and, for flights of eight hours or more, a relief attestation. Government animal-transport documents remain separate.
The DOT form instructions allow an individual trainer or the handler who trained the dog to supply their details; no training certificate is required. Forms go to the airline. Advance submission may be required up to 48 hours before departure for earlier bookings. Bookings made within 48 hours must be allowed gate submission; missed advance submission requires reasonable accommodation efforts.
A U.S. connection does not automatically establish the same process for every Luxair-operated sector outside the U.S. This section describes a connecting-carrier check, not a Luxair U.S. service promise.
Service-dog placement, control and muzzle
H402 requires a clean, fit assistance dog that fits in the footspace, sits or lies leashed on the floor, and stays off passenger seats. A harness is preferred.
Attach the lead to your seat belt during take-off, landing and seat-belt-sign periods.
Luxair’s conditions require secure footwell accommodation and appropriate public behavior. Disruptive behavior may lead to muzzling, hold transfer where a container is available, or refusal. Service-animal carriage is free, subject to safe accommodation.
Keep aisles and emergency access clear. Confirm seating, restraint and muzzle arrangements in advance. Ask which safe alternative is available if the dog cannot be accommodated; do not assume hold transfer is possible for its breed or route.
Government entry is a separate check
Use the EU government guidance for microchip identification, rabies vaccination, route-dependent testing, passports or health certificates and dog tapeworm treatment. The usual primary-rabies waiting period is at least 21 days, and the legacy tattoo date is before 3 July 2011. Great Britain-issued pet passports are not valid for travel from Great Britain to the EU.
Do not use the airline’s document summary as a complete current border checklist. Verify departure, transit, destination and return requirements directly with the relevant authorities, including for service dogs. Airline recognition, safe cabin carriage and government entry are different decisions.
