PETS DELIVERY EXPERT

Prepare your journey
with Air Mauritius.

Confirm the arrangement before committing to travel.

Independent preparation guidance. This is not animal booking approval or a complete border-entry checklist.

1. Prepare your request

Before choosing a flight, assemble the operating flight numbers, dates, connections, animal age, breed, weight and standing measurements, and proposed container measurements. Discuss travel fitness and preparation with your veterinarian. For an assistance dog, prepare a description of its trained tasks and the evidence you already have. Keep airline acceptance, animal welfare and border entry as separate decisions.

2. Read the transport policy

Pets cannot travel in the cabin. Checked-baggage carriage is described for departures from Mauritius; notify the airline when booking. Unusually sized domestic animals, reptiles and rodents require cargo. Arrange cargo through the airline’s Cargo Office or a freight forwarder. Breed-specific conditions apply. No numeric aircraft, passenger or container quotas are established here.

Do not extend an outbound arrangement to the return journey without confirmation. Establish the approved transport category for each operating sector. A ticket or enquiry alone does not confirm animal space. Ask how confirmation will be recorded and who will handle an aircraft or schedule change.

3. Resolve capacity and equipment

Get separate answers for total animals or kennels on the aircraft, animals permitted for your booking, and animals sharing each container. Ask about same-species sharing, littermates, age, mixed species and separation between containers. Do not infer permission from the animals living together. Request the flight-specific weight and dimensional limits and identify the aircraft before buying equipment.

Prepare photographs or specifications of the proposed container for review. Establish construction, door, ventilation, bedding, water and feeding arrangements with the accepting office. Confirm restrictions for the particular breed and weather conditions, plus what happens if the container fails inspection. Use the existing carrier guide to organize measurements.

4. Confirm documents and charges

Baggage charges include the animal, crate and food, outside the free allowance. Guide dogs accompanying disabled passengers travel free, subject to airline conditions. Animals need suitable crating, valid health and vaccination certificates, and destination/transit documents.

Obtain an itemized quotation covering the agreed travel arrangement. Ask about airline transport, handling, container, inspection, clearance, storage, collection, taxes and any agent charges. Record currency, payment deadline, change costs and refund terms. This guide does not provide a fixed fare.

Ask for a document checklist for the actual route, the submission destination, deadlines, required originals and copies, and the office responsible for acceptance. Establish whether documents must be checked before ticketing or shipment booking. Keep a record of submitted versions and written approval.

5. Resolve assistance arrangements

The assistance page says guide dogs travel in the hold. Request assistance at least 72 hours before departure through Reservations. This review establishes no route-specific training alternatives, dedicated dog forms, dog-number limit, cabin placement, behavior, leash or muzzle procedure, or emotional-support acceptance.

Treat the published statement as a point requiring route-specific clarification before committing. Ask the airline to reconcile its proposed arrangement with the rules applicable to your operating flight. Do not assume that a hold alternative is appropriate or mandatory in your circumstances.

Describe the tasks the dog performs. Ask separately about guide, hearing, psychiatric task-trained and emotional-support-only animals; do not treat those descriptions as interchangeable. Establish the accepted training evidence for each sector: organization credentials, individual-trainer evidence or owner-training evidence. Ask whether ADI or IGDF recognition is relevant to your route. Do not purchase a certificate expecting automatic acceptance.

Obtain the permitted number of dogs, accommodation plan, applicable fee treatment and any seating or floor-space decision in writing. Ask for behavior and restraint instructions, including leash, harness and muzzle use, and how disability-related difficulties following those instructions will be assessed. Confirm any paperwork, its validity period, submission route and airport presentation requirements. For a late request, ask how it will be assessed rather than assuming acceptance.

For background, consult the existing training reference, UK and Europe reference, U.S. airline reference and forms reference. These do not establish Air Mauritius approval or a particular route’s availability.

6. Plan cargo handover

The cargo FAQ lists freight forwarders, cargo agents and interline partners as accepted consignors.

For a quotation, the airline highlights commodity, weight, dimensions, compatibility with other freight, special handling and storage en route.

Ask the cargo office which agent can handle your shipment and who will obtain confirmed space. Establish the live-animal acceptance deadline, cargo terminal, handover appointment, collection arrangements and responsible contacts at every stop. Do not assume passenger check-in and cargo acceptance use the same place or schedule.

Plan the response to delays before handover: who can access the animal, who provides care, how you will be contacted, and which costs need approval. Ask whether an overnight transit is suitable and what care can actually be booked. No cargo acceptance cutoff or handling price is established here.

7. Check entry independently

This guide does not verify a Mauritius import or quarantine timetable. Obtain the current requirements from the destination’s veterinary authority before making commitments, including any transit jurisdiction. Confirm identification, vaccinations, tests, permits, official certification, inspection, quarantine and release arrangements for the animal’s actual origin and history. Do not infer an exemption from assistance-dog status.

Separate the airline’s document review from government clearance. Ask the authority or official veterinarian to explain timing and validity, and establish who will collect the animal after any required inspection or quarantine. If U.S. entry is involved, use the existing entry reference as a starting point.

8. Keep a travel file

Before payment, bring together the approved operating flights, transport category, available animal space, container or accommodation arrangement, documents, training evidence, charges and airport schedule. Keep confirmations and responsible-office contacts accessible during travel. Recheck unresolved decisions after any change of aircraft, route or operating carrier.
