Independent preparation guidance covering selected planning points. This is not booking approval or a complete airline or border-entry checklist.
1. Prepare your request
Create one worksheet for the actual journey: dates, flight numbers, operating carriers, connections, traveler and animal details, and proposed equipment. Ask for a written decision covering every sector before making non-refundable commitments. Keep unresolved questions visible.
Discuss travel welfare with your veterinarian. Use the carrier planning guide to organize measurements. Keep airline acceptance, border entry and welfare preparation as separate checks.
2. Pets
Cabin dogs/cats: five pets/flight; one carrier/adult; up to two same-species, same-breed animals/carrier. Maximum 10kg combined; soft carrier 40×34×18cm. Book online with flights, otherwise call +356 2135 6000. Accompanied checked baggage (AVIH): two/sector; request ≥5 working days ahead using the linked form; one container/passenger, up to two same-species/same-breed animals sharing only below three hours. Confirm UK direction, species, loaded-weight fees, crate dimensions and cargo handling. Veterinary examination: within two days for Türkiye, three elsewhere; airport check-in ≥2 hours ahead. Read the full policy before booking.
Use the directory entry for the existing overview and fee example. Record the accepted number of animals and containers separately. Ask whether the proposed combination has been accepted, rather than multiplying published figures into an assumed reservation.
3. Assistance
KM-operated flights: trained guide, hearing and service dogs, including psychiatric tasks. HTML recognition names IGDF, ADI, ADEu and Messerli; the linked form lists only ADI/IGDF. Resolve eligibility with the Medical Help Desk (+356 2167 6763), including individual training or emotional support; neither pathway is established here. Submit the dog application through Special Assistance; obtain confirmation. HTML notice: ≥48 hours, seven days for UK flights; the form recommends ≥72 hours. Ask which documents and medical declaration apply. Capacity is limited without a published number. Floor placement, harness secured to seatbelt, controlled behaviour and an available muzzle are required; follow crew directions. Ask about leash requirements and route approval. Airline acceptance does not replace entry clearance.
Prepare a question list around the dog’s actual training and tasks. Keep the document version and written reply together. The service-dog reference provides background; it does not approve an individual journey.
4. Carriage conditions
Recognised assistance dogs travel without an additional carriage charge, beyond the normal baggage allowance. Carriage remains subject to the airline’s conditions. Animals need the documents required for entry and transit. Confirm the operating carrier for every sector.
Read the complete conditions before committing. Ask the airline to reconcile any different answers in its webpage, application or response. Keep the unresolved item open until the responsible office answers it.
5. Confirm the quotation
Request the complete itinerary price in writing. Record the currency, included services, payment dates and treatment of changes or cancellation. Separate airline charges from veterinary, government, ground-handling and other services in your own budget. Do not infer a complete quotation from a fee example.
6. Check entry separately
Build a separate destination and transit checklist using the country references, then verify current instructions with the responsible authorities and your official veterinarian. Match the route to the animal’s origin, travel history and document validity. Record any inspection appointment separately from airline confirmation.
7. Keep the decisions together
Before departure, assemble the current itinerary, written decisions, submitted forms, required originals, payment records and responsible-office contacts. Review the file after any schedule or operator change. Make sure everyone helping with the journey has the current version.
