Plan the certificate
From January 1, 2027, pet dogs and cats traveling from the United States to the Bahamas will need an export health certificate electronically signed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian and electronically endorsed by USDA APHIS.
APHIS page modified October 7, 2026; announcement date unconfirmed. Checked October 12.

Allow time for the permit
The Bahamas import permit remains a separate step. APHIS advises applying at least four weeks in advance. Use the current certificate for the correct species and ask your veterinarian to plan the examination, submission and final document handover around your travel date.

Carry the completed travel copy
Electronic endorsement does not mean phone-only paperwork. APHIS’s VEHCS guidance says a printed copy of the completed health certificate must accompany the animal’s shipment. Keep that final travel copy with the import permit and other documents required for your pet’s journey.
