Canada–EU commercial pet certificates: use the new form before the October cut-off
Use the new commercial certificate now. Official sources differ on the final old-form date around October 17; confirm any shipment relying on the transition.

Use the updated commercial certificate now
CFIA advises using the new commercial animal health certificate immediately. Its guidance says previous forms may be signed through October 17, 2026, while the European Commission says the older model must be issued before October 17.
Do not plan an old-form certificate for October 17 on the assumption that both authorities accept that date. Ask CFIA and the receiving EU authority to confirm any shipment relying on the transition. A transition provision does not extend a certificate’s normal validity or waive the other entry requirements.

Check which movement category applies
This guidance covers commercial movements of dogs, cats and ferrets from Canada to the EU or Northern Ireland, including commercial transit through the EU. It does not cover ordinary personal-pet travel accompanied by the owner or an authorised person within five days of the owner.
A sale or ownership transfer, or a pet traveling more than five days apart from its owner, can put the journey under commercial rules. The category needs to be checked before choosing the paperwork.
Our planning recommendation
Send the veterinarian both the animal’s itinerary and the owner’s travel dates. Ask for the movement category, form version and endorsement appointment to be confirmed together.
Label the approved documents clearly and keep obsolete drafts out of the final travel folder. If your pet is traveling under the non-commercial pathway, read the separate EU certificate-template update.
