Independent planning guidance from Pets Delivery Expert. We arrange individual, complete pet journeys; we are not Avianca customer support. Published conditions and starting prices do not reserve space or establish acceptance for a particular animal.
1. Arrange the pet through the correct booking channel
Avianca lists ordinary-pet cabin travel up to 10 kg including the carrier, subject to space. Request it at least 48 hours ahead through its Contact Center, travel agencies or sales offices. Its policy excludes cabin pets in B787 Business Class and under its Venezuela conditions; check destination-specific exceptions before booking.
Confirm the pet’s place on every operating flight and connection before buying tickets. Keep the airline’s confirmation.
The cabin carrier must be flexible, no larger than 55 × 35 × 25 cm. Avianca’s separate carrier page also gives a 20 cm pet-height limit and requires natural standing and turning without touching the top or sides. Send actual measurements rather than relying on a bag’s advertised size.

2. Check the exact hold flight, season and operator
The ordinary checked-hold limit is 70 kg including the container. This maximum does not establish availability on your route.
Avianca excludes hold pets on flights operated with Clic aircraft. Its separate restriction page links eligible flight schedules and lists both-direction seasonal exclusions: Asunción and Rio de Janeiro from December 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027; Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Houston, New York, Washington D.C., Toronto and Montreal from December 15, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
Check the linked list against each departure, connection and return. If the planned flight cannot accept the pet, assess a different operating flight or itinerary before paying. Do not assume a change of passenger flight automatically transfers the animal’s approval.

3. Review flat-faced breeds and crosses individually
Avianca’s policy limits listed brachycephalic dogs, cats and their crosses to the cabin. The linked form describes a broader assessment of physical characteristics and respiratory or heat-risk factors; its breed list is illustrative.
Dogo de Burdeos appears in both Avianca’s special-handling and hold-excluded lists. Ask Avianca to resolve this overlap for your animal.
Pets Delivery Expert’s brachycephalic-dog service is cabin-only, using individually confirmed commercial-flight or private-flight arrangements. A hold restriction does not create an exception to an airline’s cabin limits.

4. Treat published fees as scoped starting prices
The Spanish fee page lists cabin starting prices of COP 80,000 for domestic Colombia and USD 220 towards Europe, excluding flights to the UK. These examples apply to its listed sales offices, Contact Center and travel-agency channels.
The table says taxes are included and identifies possible high-season increases. It does not establish a complete connection or return-journey total. Ask for the accepted itinerary’s final charge, currency and any change conditions.
Compare that airline charge separately from the agreed services in a managed-transport proposal. Our cost-planning guide helps you check what is included.

5. Resolve the form and entry documents separately
Avianca asks for its completed, printed pet-transport form alongside travel documents. For domestic Colombia, the general policy offers a younger-pet exception; its documents page instead says older than four months, while the linked form excludes animals under four months. Resolve the applicable age with Avianca for your actual flight before booking.
Use current government requirements for the origin, transit and destination rather than treating an airline checklist as a complete legal entry assessment. For US-bound dogs, select the current CDC pathway; our US preparation guide links the official sources.
Keep one record of what the airline has accepted and another of the government documents required. If the dates or route change, review both.

6. Keep trained service-dog arrangements separate
Avianca’s service-dog page describes Open Doors document registration for travel between Colombia and the United States, available from August 10, 2026. It recommends advance registration and explains the confirmation and documents to carry.
Use the dedicated airline process and applicable government rules for a genuine trained service dog. US DOT recognition depends on disability-related task training; emotional-support status is a different category. We do not use assistance status as a workaround for an ordinary pet’s size or breed.

Questions before you book
Should I choose a flight before checking the pet place?
Check both together. Ask for confirmation covering the animal, operating flights and travel format, then keep that confirmation with your itinerary.

Does the published maximum weight guarantee hold transport?
No. Check the actual operating flight, seasonal restrictions, animal and container before treating hold carriage as an available option.

Does the cabin starting price cover my complete move?
Ask for the full booking total and compare any managed-transport proposal by the services it includes. A route-group starting price is not a complete relocation quote.
