Independent planning guidance for dogs and cats on Emirates, with separate cargo and genuine disability-trained assistance-dog sections. This is not airline support, an affiliation claim or a booking confirmation.
1. Ordinary dogs and cats cannot use the cabin
Ordinary dogs and cats travel as eligible checked animals or separate cargo. Emirates requires cargo for journeys ending in Dubai. Its falcon exception does not apply to pet dogs or cats.
2. Request transport at least one week ahead
Use Emirates’ pet form at least one week before departure. The form covers pets aged four months or older and directs carriers exceeding 300 cm combined length, width and height to cargo. This is a request for specific transport information, not instant confirmation.
Prepare the breed, age, animal measurements, loaded crate dimensions and itinerary before contacting the airline. Ask which office confirms the pet, who takes payment and where handover happens.

3. Check elapsed journey and Dubai transit
For eligible checked carriage, the total journey must be under 17 hours; the baggage page includes approximately one hour at each end. A Dubai connection over six hours requires cargo. Pets needing feeding, water or medication during transport require cargo with at least a six-hour connection. Confirm arrangements for borderline timings.
Emirates does not take responsibility for pet transport on other-airline sectors. Resolve each operator separately.
4. Budget for the pet and crate together
The published checked-pet bands are US$500/CAD700, US$650/CAD900 and US$800/CAD1,150, tied to weight and container dimensions. These apply outside the normal baggage allowance. Get an exact quote when weight and dimensions fall into different bands.
Pregnancy beyond one-third of gestation and birth within 48 hours are excluded. Put a 24-hour emergency contact and temperature requirement on the crate.
5. Request an independent SkyCargo assessment
Emirates SkyCargo requires compliance with its live-animal policy, IATA container standards, applicable government rules and any seasonal or prior-approval restrictions. Its official indexed FAQ says brachycephalic cats and dogs can be considered only under specific conditions and prior approval. This is not a blanket breed acceptance or a passenger-baggage waiver.
Contact the cargo station about the animal’s age and breed, departure weather, transfer handling and crate before purchasing equipment. The detailed live FAQ was unreadable during this review; the official index does not provide a complete breed list or universal cargo minimum age. Ask for those conditions in writing for the actual shipment.
Documents can include original export/import/transit permits and veterinary/vaccination records. Obtain a cargo quote separately, including handling and collection costs, and confirm whether an agent is needed for the chosen origin.

6. Genuine service dogs use accessibility rules
The current accessibility page includes guide and psychiatric assistance dogs on specified cabin routes, including U.S./Canada travel, Australia–New Zealand and Dubai–EU in both directions. Other Dubai routes have different handling. Emotional-support and therapy animals use ordinary-pet rules.
Notify Emirates at least 48 hours ahead. Dubai-bound service-dog documentation is requested at least four working days before departure for MOCCAE validation. Check health, permit, training and floor-space requirements directly with Special Care. Do not apply the ordinary-pet cargo-only Dubai statement to a qualifying service dog without checking this dedicated procedure.
7. Resolve service-dog source conflicts
The current accessibility hub and baggage FAQ describe the assistance-dog scope differently: the baggage FAQ gives a narrower guide-dog exception. Use the current accessibility hub and obtain written route confirmation.
The current page also describes certain other service-dog types as hold-only. That wording must not become a blanket U.S.-route rule: U.S. DOT guidance recognises individually disability-task-trained dogs of any breed or type, including physical, sensory and psychiatric assistance. Emotional comfort alone does not qualify.
For U.S. flights, DOT permits its transport form and a relief attestation for flights of eight hours or more, with government animal-entry documentation separately required. Emirates asks that forms be submitted to Special Care. If a classification or accommodation question remains unresolved, ask its Complaints Resolution Official.

8. Build the entry and return plan
Verify the destination and any transit government requirements separately from Emirates acceptance. For U.S.-bound dogs, use the CDC pathway for recent country history and vaccination status. Check the return leg at the same time so a successful outbound journey does not leave the animal without an approved way home.

Prepare a route review
Send your departure and arrival cities, dates and operating flights, plus your pet’s breed, age, weight and measurements. Include the carrier’s external dimensions and loaded weight, who will accompany the animal, and any existing airline confirmation.
Keep separate checklists for airline acceptance, veterinary preparation, government entry and transit rules, and arrival handover. Ask who receives the animal if a flight changes or an inspection takes longer than expected.
Questions before you book
Can my ordinary pet dog travel in the cabin?
No. Investigate eligible checked carriage or separate cargo. Genuine service dogs use a different process.

Does submitting the pet form confirm transport?
No. Use it to request transport information and obtain the airline’s acceptance separately.

What should I ask before choosing a crate?
Ask the accepting team to approve the exact animal measurements, crate specification, loaded dimensions and route.

Official sources checked 11 October 2026. Availability, documents, charges and acceptance require confirmation for the actual journey. Emirates baggage FAQ differs from the current accessibility hub. The guide preserves those conflicts and applies U.S. DOT guidance separately. SkyCargo’s official indexed FAQ gives conditional brachycephalic acceptance, not a universal breed, age or route guarantee.
