Plan animal travel
with Rossiya.

Choose cabin, adjacent seat, hold, cargo or assistance first, then confirm the exact operating flight.

Independent planning guidance, not an acceptance decision or a complete government-entry checklist. Published inconsistencies and source-access limits are identified rather than resolved by assumption.

Choose the right travel arrangement

An ordinary pet may travel in an approved under-seat carrier, in a carrier on a purchased adjacent seat, or as checked hold baggage. These are different bookings. An unaccompanied shipment needs a separate cargo enquiry. A guide dog accompanying a visually impaired passenger follows the assistance procedure, not the ordinary pet-carrier rules.

Start with the exact operating flight, then the animal and carrier. Rossiya’s published material contains conflicting scope and count statements, explained below. We retrieved its ordinary-view pet page on 23 October 2026, but some other versions and the complete conditions of carriage were unavailable. This is planning guidance, not confirmation of acceptance.

Rossiya operates the flight; the flight code still matters

Rossiya’s official FAQ identifies SU/FV 5501–6999 as flights commercially managed by Aeroflot, with Rossiya supplying the aircraft and crew. Buying on Aeroflot’s website does not make Aeroflot the operating airline. Record both the marketing code and the actual operator for every outward, connecting and return sector.

The pet-page introduction and booking page cover SU/FV 5501–6999, but the adjacent-seat detail names SU 6001–6999. Do not silently extend a service to all FV flights. HZ regional services, another operator and a tour-operator booking need their own acceptance check. Ask the ticket seller which airline or agent must confirm each service, and recheck after a flight or aircraft change.

Request, receive confirmation, then pay

For the stated SU/FV 5501–6999 scope, Rossiya directs requests to Aeroflot’s contact centre, sales office, booking agent or website booking flow. Its procedure gives six hours before scheduled departure for under-seat and hold requests, and 36 hours for an adjacent seat. It tells passengers to wait for email confirmation before paying. Contact numbers published there are 8 800 444 55 55 and +7 495 223 55 55.

Apply when choosing flights, not at the deadline. Give the species, breed or cross, age, number of animals, placement of each, carrier construction, outside dimensions and loaded weight. Obtain confirmation for all sectors and the return, plus payment instructions, the booking reference and what happens if the animal request is refused.

A freshly indexed version of the booking page warns that cabin PETC on FV 5501–5999 to Egypt is decided only at airport check-in when technically possible, not approved beforehand. That warning was absent from the full page retrieved in this review. The crawl dates do not establish when the policy changed. Treat Egypt as an unresolved special case before buying, not a promise of acceptance at the airport.

Check species, breed and passenger eligibility

Rossiya lists cats, dogs, birds and specified tame household species, including ferrets, miniature rabbits and some small exotic mammals. This is not permission for every small animal. Its exclusions include rodents, reptiles, arthropods, aquatic animals, animals taken from the wild, large predators, sick animals and laboratory animals. Identify the exact species rather than relying on a shop’s description of it as a pet.

The pet page says brachycephalic dogs have been temporarily barred from the hold on all routes since 11 July 2026; cabin travel remains subject to the cabin rules. Listed potentially dangerous breeds and their crosses are restricted to the hold in reinforced crates. If a dog falls into both categories, do not treat the hold-only provision as an exception to the hold ban. Have the airline assess the actual breed or cross.

The pet page requires an adult or legally emancipated passenger. Indexed conditions suggest a possible accompanied-minor exception, but the complete conditions could not be read. Confirm that case rather than promising it. No general minimum pet age, weaning rule or complete pregnancy restriction was verified; the kitten/puppy provision below does not remove veterinary or entry requirements.

Under-seat travel: measure the loaded carrier

Published under-seat limit: 8 kg including the animal and carrier. A rigid carrier is limited to 44 × 30 × 26 cm (length × width × height); a closed soft carrier has a maximum sum of three dimensions of 126 cm. The animal must still stand normally, turn fully and lie naturally. A permitted size is not proof of adequate space.

Rossiya requires the carrier under the seat during take-off, climb, descent, landing and turbulence. Keep it closed: its page prohibits releasing the animal or feeding it onboard. A bird carrier needs a perch, room to spread the wings and a light-blocking cover. Ask the airline to confirm the usable under-seat space and your specific soft carrier before purchase; the published dimensional sum does not guarantee a fit on every aircraft.

Do not book a preferred seat independently of the animal request. The FAQ gives window-only seating, while the detailed page allows some central-block arrangements. Exit-row, nearby-child and other-animal restrictions also appear. Let the airline assign an eligible seat for your actual aircraft.

Adjacent seat: a separately approved carrier and ticket

The published adjacent-seat allowance is one carrier, up to three animals and 15 kg including the carrier. Rigid carrier limits are 50 × 40 × 30 cm in Business and 50 × 35 × 30 cm in Comfort/Economy. For shape-retaining semi-rigid carriers they are 50 × 40 × 40 cm in Business and 50 × 35 × 32 cm in Comfort/Economy. Dimensions are length × width × height.

The carrier must retain its shape when secured and have a top handle through which the seat belt can pass. Bring at least two waterproof absorbent pads. The animal must have standing and turning room. Agree the exact seat and carrier construction with the airline, including the SU/FV scope discrepancy above; do not assume any spare passenger seat can be used.

Rossiya says the sales office can issue this arrangement with the passenger ticket, using the applicable adult fare and corresponding charges. It adds no ordinary cabin-pet charge for that purchased animal seat, but gives that ticket no extra free baggage allowance. Request the complete quote and change/refund terms before payment.

More than one animal: resolve the conflicting counts

Rossiya’s pet-page summary allows up to three animals in one under-seat carrier, whereas its detailed text describes two animals, with a separate exception for up to three kittens or puppies. That detail gives a three-animal passenger total through either one in cabin plus two in the hold, or two sharing a cabin carrier plus one in the hold. Do not turn either passage into unconditional permission.

An official Aeroflot announcement expressly includes Rossiya-operated flights under SU: one passenger may request an under-seat carrier plus an adjacent-seat carrier, with up to three animals in each and respective loaded limits of 8 kg and 15 kg. This announced six-animal cabin option differs from Rossiya’s three-animal wording. It does not establish FV eligibility, an aircraft-wide quota or permission to add hold pets.

Before relying on a shared carrier, get the airline’s written answer on species compatibility, ages, same-litter or cohabitation requirements and comfortable space for every animal. These conditions were not fully verified. For counts above the usual allowance, Rossiya requests an enquiry at least three days ahead; this is discretionary review, not automatic acceptance. Obtain one confirmed list of animals and placements, including any combination of under-seat, adjacent-seat and hold travel.

Checked hold: confirm the aircraft and every crate

Rossiya publishes a 50 kg animal-plus-crate ceiling. Its cargo referral also mentions a 32 kg threshold on some unspecified routes: ask which limit applies to yours. The summary says no more than two hold crates per passenger; later text says several. Do not infer unlimited crates. Confirm the total against the cabin/hold rules above.

The ordinary hold rule is one animal per crate. A separately stated bird rule permits up to six birds, with individual compartments for pigeons. No shared-crate exception for puppies or kittens in the hold was verified. Do not transfer the cabin litter exception to the hold.

Animal space and suitable hold conditions must be confirmed for the actual aircraft. Rossiya lists lack of quota and inability to provide appropriate hold temperature as refusal grounds. No universal maximum crate dimensions, numeric flight-wide pet quota, outdoor-temperature cutoffs or guaranteed transfer acceptance were verified. Ask about each aircraft, loading door, season, connection and alternative if conditions change.

Sources: Rossiya pet policy: ordinary-view text retrieved.

Prepare the crate for the booked mode

Rossiya requires ventilation, a secure closure, a leakproof base and non-toxic absorbent lining. Hold crates must be rigid, impact-resistant and secure against damage by the animal, with a solid roof, metal door, smooth safe interior and lifting handles. Wheels must be removed or immobilised. The animal needs natural standing, turning and lying space.

Reinforced-crate requirements apply to the airline’s listed dangerous dogs and certain tame exotic mammals in the hold. For a split crate, the page specifies metal bolts and nuts; an all-wire-mesh crate is not accepted. Ask the airline to approve the exact construction rather than relying on a retailer’s “airline approved” label.

Inspect the carrier before departure and let the animal become familiar with it. A damaged or unsuitable carrier can be refused; Rossiya says a passenger’s resulting decision not to travel is treated as voluntary. Confirm the financial implications in your own fare conditions.

Guide dogs and other assistance dogs are not the same category

Rossiya’s accessible procedure concerns a guide dog accompanying a passenger with visual impairment. It provides free carriage, requires proof of the dog’s special training and of the passenger’s disability at check-in, and requires check-in at the airport counter. It says approval is requested when booking and remains possible until check-in closes.

The pet page describes carriage without a container, with collar, muzzle and leash, secured to the seat at the passenger’s feet. The handler must maintain control; the dog must not occupy a seat, another passenger’s space or the aisle. It describes preboarding and disembarkation after other passengers. The page states no passenger-age or dog-weight restriction for this guide-dog arrangement. Separately, the accessibility page requires a human companion for a child with a disability under 12 and for a passenger with both visual and hearing disabilities; a guide dog does not replace that companion.

Indexed conditions also contain a 36-hour notice table and an over-12 passenger-age statement, alongside different guide-dog wording. The complete conditions were not retrievable. Ask early and have the assistance team reconcile these points; do not describe 36 hours as an absolute denial deadline. Airport accompaniment is a separate service: the accessibility page asks for it when booking or at least 36 hours before departure, and recommends arriving for check-in four hours before departure for passengers with disabilities.

For a task-trained dog assisting another disability, ask which category Rossiya accepts on the exact route, what evidence is required, and the dog count, floor space, equipment and submission channel. The reviewed material does not establish universal acceptance of owner-trained dogs, an ADI/IGDF-only rule, emotional-support status or a certificate-only shortcut. U.S.-related wording in indexed conditions is not a verified current procedure for every Rossiya connection.

Do not mistranslate the official working-dog category

The Russian term used in Rossiya’s separate working-dog section refers to dogs of federal executive authorities’ canine services. It is not a general translation of disability “service dog.” Rossiya requests proof of training and of the handler’s employment in that canine service, with a request at least six hours before departure.

The section describes paid non-standard-baggage carriage in cabin or hold, with different containment arrangements, and no ordinary weight limit for the working dog. Do not apply that exemption to a pet or assistance dog. Obtain the flight-specific quote and operational approval through the appropriate official channel.

Prepare airline documents and veterinary documents separately

Rossiya’s pet page describes a domestic-flight health examination recorded in the veterinary passport by a licensed specialist of a state veterinary institution within the preceding 14 days, or a certificate from such a specialist. Treat this as the airline’s published document instruction, not a complete statement of Russian law or an international health-certificate rule.

For international travel the page calls for the airport veterinary-control endorsement and the documents required by the origin, destination and transit countries. It says domestic Russian journeys do not require airport veterinary control, although the general FAQ refers to checking in after veterinary control without that distinction. Confirm the actual departure-airport process.

Prepare the animal’s veterinary and identification records, vaccination and examination evidence, any import/export/transit paperwork, and separate guide-dog or working-dog documents when relevant. Verify the correct accompanying person’s details with the airline. Carry the required originals and the airline approval; submit personal or medical evidence only through a verified official channel.

Plan check-in, connections and changes

Rossiya’s pet FAQ directs passengers with animals to airport check-in. Ask the airport and airline how early to arrive, where veterinary checks or hold handover take place, and the deadlines for that flight. The six-hour request deadline is not a check-in arrival time. No single animal-specific arrival buffer was verified.

For a connection, obtain a sector-by-sector answer on whether the animal is accepted, whether the crate is checked through, where collection/re-check is required and who handles a missed connection. Allow time for any border or veterinary step; being in transit does not by itself settle entry requirements.

At check-in and boarding the actual breed, animal count, loaded weight and carrier must match the approved request. Reconfirm animal space after rerouting or an aircraft change. Ask for a usable contingency before departure, especially where a short-nosed dog cannot be moved into the hold.

Get a current price for the actual flight

Ordinary pets are not included in free baggage allowance. The SU/FV booking page links Aeroflot’s non-standard-baggage tariff, but that tariff was access-restricted during this review. An older FV 5501–5999 page remains indexed with per-kilogram charges and tour-operator instructions, while its direct URL returned 404. Those figures are not presented as current prices.

Ask for the total and currency for each sector, including the carrier, any service/agent charges, extra seat, taxes and handling. Confirm which seller takes payment, whether a payment depends on approval, and how cancellation or a changed itinerary affects both your ticket and the animal service. Keep the service confirmation and payment receipt together.

Cargo is a separate request, not a guaranteed workaround

Rossiya’s pet material refers animals outside passenger-baggage acceptance to an air-cargo agent. Its cargo page says special cargo needs Rossiya’s agreement; it does not provide a complete live-animal booking procedure. An oversized pet or excluded species is not thereby guaranteed cargo acceptance.

Before arranging shipment, verify that a qualified agent and the operating carrier accept the exact animal and route. Request the crate standard, age/breed restrictions, weather rules, documentation, terminal, handover time, consignee and collection arrangements. Obtain a quote covering handling, clearance and any storage, and ask what happens if the shipment cannot travel. Passenger-terminal check-in is not cargo handover.

Airline approval does not replace entry permission

Check the competent authority for every origin, destination and transit point, including the return. Confirm identification, vaccination, any antibody test, permits, health certificates, inspection, arrival points and advance notices. This guide does not verify a complete border pathway.

Rossiya links Rosselkhoznadzor’s domestic and foreign-travel instructions, but those pages returned access errors in this review. Its own country notes are not a substitute for current government requirements. Check animal-entry rules, airline assistance-dog recognition and public-access rights as three separate questions.

Before paying, you should be able to identify the approved operator and flight code, each animal and placement, accepted carrier, complete price, documentary deadlines and airport/connection process. Record unresolved points and the airline’s written answers in your journey worksheet.
