One plan for the agreed journey
Your proposal sets out the stages we will coordinate:
- The route, operating airlines, connections and available travel format.
- The preparation timetable and travel-document handovers.
- The container arrangements and who provides it.
- Departure and arrival contacts, with collection and onward delivery where included.
- The included services, costs and responsibilities.
Airlines operate the flights, veterinarians complete veterinary work, and the authorities issue official approvals. We organize the complete agreed transport around those responsibilities.
Bringing your pet to Japan
The preparation timetable depends on your pet’s residence and travel history. Japan has separate pathways for designated regions and other origins. Mainland United States is not a designated region; the applicable pathway also depends on residence history and any transit.
For the standard first-time non-designated pathway, plan for microchip identification, qualifying rabies vaccinations, an antibody test and at least 180 days after blood sampling before arrival. AQS advance notification is required at least 40 days before arrival. Existing records or a previous export from Japan can affect the assessment.

Moving your pet from Japan
A departure from Japan needs its own plan around the destination’s entry conditions and Japan’s export inspection. AQS currently asks for an export-inspection application at least 14 days before the desired inspection date. Share your destination and existing records early so the veterinary and transport schedules can be assessed together.
If your pet may return to Japan, include that in the plan before departure. Return eligibility can depend on preparation completed before leaving.

Traveling together or separately
Tell us whether you will travel with your pet, on different dates or not at all. We assess the pet’s breed, size, container, operating airline and connections before proposing the available arrangement. Cabin travel is subject to confirmation for the actual itinerary.
