Leaving Cayman with a pet: accredited vets required from January 2027
An October 8 announcement changes who can complete outbound pet health certificates from January 1, 2027. Government export permits remain part of the process.

Choose the certifying veterinarian early
The Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture announced on October 8 that, from January 1, 2027, only veterinarians accredited by the department may complete health certificates for pets leaving Cayman. Certificates must still be submitted to the department for the applicable export permit.
Certificates completed by unaccredited veterinarians remain acceptable to the department through December 31, 2026.

Rabies appointments are changing too
The government rabies vaccination clinic closes on January 1, 2027. Vaccination services will move to accredited private veterinarians, with government provision continuing in the Sister Islands when no veterinarian is available. Existing government-issued rabies certificates retain their stated validity.

Plan the certificate and flight together
For a 2027 departure, confirm your veterinarian’s accreditation before scheduling the final health assessment. Ask for a preparation timetable covering the destination’s requirements, certification and the Cayman export permit.
