Japan lifts its pet import suspension for Uzbekistan

A September 11 notice changes the position for dogs and cats exported from Uzbekistan to Japan.

What the official notice says

Japan’s Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) announced on September 11, 2026 that it had lifted the temporary import suspension for dogs and cats exported from Uzbekistan to Japan.

An earlier notice dated June 12, 2026 covered exports from both Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. The September announcement names Uzbekistan specifically; it should not be read as lifting restrictions for every country covered by the earlier notice.

What this means for a planned move

The change concerns the suspension. Japan’s normal preparation, certification, advance-notification, and arrival-inspection requirements still need to be satisfied.

For an Uzbekistan departure, send your proposed route and existing veterinary records to the AQS office responsible for the intended arrival port. Ask it to confirm how the current notice applies before making non-refundable arrangements.

Airline acceptance and transit arrangements also need their own review. Our Japan dog and cat travel guide explains the preparation sequence and links to the official instructions.
