Independent planning guidance. Airline acceptance, destination entry permission and veterinary fitness are separate checks. Rules below concern the named operating airline; confirm every partner-operated sector independently.
1. Test cabin fit on the smallest aircraft
Cabin: one cat/dog per passenger and carrier, maximum 8 kg combined. No cabin pet when travelling with an infant. Outside dimensions, length × width × height: 55 × 40 × 23 cm; DH8-100/ATR, 40 × 25 × 25 cm. Soft-sided carriers are recommended; four-sided ventilation is required.
Measure the animal standing naturally as well as the closed carrier. A carrier fitting the published envelope can still be too small for its occupant. For connections, send the measurements with every aircraft type, not just the first flight.

2. Check aircraft and connection eligibility
Hold cats/dogs: A320/A321/ATR42-600/ATR72-600; AEGEAN Hub caps loaded weight at 50 kg. Connections over three hours are excluded. Crates above 105 × 75 × 79 cm (length × width × height), or unaccompanied animals, need Cargo Department assessment.
The passenger page’s five-item statement includes baggage/special equipment; it is not a five-pet aircraft quota. Each hold container holds one animal. A universal flightwide number is not published.
Ask for a handover plan that covers delays as well as the advertised connection. Separate ticketing may require entry into the transit country, collection and a fresh check-in; establish who will handle those steps before choosing flights.

3. Check the breed document before choosing a format
AEGEAN and Olympic Air’s current breed document excludes listed snub-nosed animals from checked baggage and air cargo. Examples include Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, several Mastiffs, Persians and British Shorthairs. Its list also includes breeds owners may not expect, so consult the complete document rather than relying on appearance. Listed dog crosses/hybrids are included.
A separate category, including Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino and Dobermann, is excluded from both cabin and passenger hold; the document directs questions to Cargo. That referral is not cargo acceptance.
For a flat-faced animal, obtain veterinary fitness advice and verify cabin feasibility. Our brachycephalic-dog service is cabin-only. Do not treat this summary of airline policy as an offer of hold or cargo carriage for a flat-faced dog.

4. Reserve the pet service and confirm the operator
Use Extras during website/app ticket purchase, or add the animal later in My Booking; the Call Center is another route. Pet reservations are capacity-limited and possible until two hours before departure. Call for connection availability.
Fees below concern AEGEAN/Olympic Air operation. Do not transfer their rules to a partner-operated sector merely because it appears on the same booking. Obtain the pet-service confirmation for all sectors before arranging non-refundable hotels, ground transport or veterinary appointments that depend on those dates.

5. Read the tariff by weight, route and connections
Per container, per route: cabin EUR 39 domestic / EUR 72 international. Medium hold, 8–25 kg and up to 71 × 52 × 55 cm (L×W×H): domestic EUR 50 direct / 55 connecting; international EUR 110 / 120. Large hold, over 25 kg, up to 105 × 75 × 79 cm: domestic EUR 90 / 95; international EUR 180 / 190. Post-ticket Call Center booking adds EUR 8 per passenger.
Ask which band applies if weight and dimensions suggest different categories. Request the complete route quotation and conditions for changing the pet reservation together with the passenger ticket.

6. Resolve destination and health requirements
UK-bound pets are cargo-only via Heathrow; outbound UK cabin/hold is permitted except Gatwick. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia are cargo-only. Minimum age is 12 weeks with valid rabies vaccination; first-vaccination timing may make actual travel later.
Have the vet check microchip and vaccination order, waiting periods, export certification and transit entry. Check breed-related national restrictions separately from the airline’s breed list. A health certificate and an airline reservation serve different purposes; neither replaces the other.

7. Prepare for the counter inspection
AEGEAN’s checklist asks you to have identity/health documents, completed veterinary preparation, an approved familiar carrier, identification tags and sufficient supplies ready. It says to present at check-in at least one hour before departure and exercise the animal before security.
That is a pet-presentation minimum, not a safe airport-arrival target. Allow additional time for queues and inspection. Organise originals and copies in a single accessible folder; keep the accepted carrier dimensions and airline correspondence beside them. Ask where the hold animal is collected on arrival and whether access to that area requires a local agent.

8. Book genuine service dogs separately
AEGEAN accepts certified task-trained assistance dogs and rescue dogs. Its listed certification bodies include ADI, IGDF, EGDF and nationally certified guide-dog schools. One service dog is allowed in cabin free, fitting between the handler’s feet; a second may require hold carriage.
Request at least 48 hours ahead via the airline’s digital channels or Call Center. UK requests require the Call Center at least five days ahead. Have the airline confirm certification, entry clearance and the exact routing. Emotional-support status alone is not proof of eligibility for this category.

Prepare your route for review
Send the cities, dates, animal’s breed and age, loaded carrier weight, outside carrier measurements and proposed operating flights. Include any airline acceptance already received. A useful proposal identifies who accompanies the animal, where each handover occurs, what is included and which costs remain separate. Request a transport proposal.
