PETS DELIVERY EXPERT

Flying with a pet
on Copa Airlines.

Check the complete route, pet space and booking process before committing to your journey.

Independent planning guidance from Pets Delivery Expert for dogs and cats. We coordinate individual complete pet journeys; we are not Copa customer support. A listed fare, cargo referral or passenger ticket does not establish acceptance for a particular animal.

1. Confirm the cabin place before buying the itinerary

Copa’s ordinary cabin service covers dogs and cats, one per passenger, with a combined pet-and-carrier limit of 10 kg. Reserve through its Sales Offices or Call Centre at least 48 hours ahead. A soft-sided carrier is required.

Begin with the complete route and your pet’s actual measurements. Ask the airline to assess carrier fit, available pet space and seating together. A bag meeting a dimension limit is not enough if your animal cannot stand, turn and lie comfortably.

Ordinary-pet connections with other airlines are excluded. The general minimum age is 16 weeks.

Keep the pet confirmation with the flight record. If an operating flight or connection changes, have the animal’s acceptance reviewed again before relying on the replacement itinerary.

2. Understand the published cabin-pet fees

Copa lists USD 125 plus taxes for international flights and connections, and USD 25 plus taxes for the domestic PTY–DAV route. It labels these per-flight charges; the pet fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Ask for the final amount for all sectors and directions in your booking, including the applicable currency, taxes and any change conditions. Do not budget one advertised amount as the price of an entire relocation.

For a managed journey, the proposal should separately identify the agreed transport, preparation and handovers. Our cost-planning page explains what to compare.

3. Treat Copa Mascotas as a separate assessment

The passenger page refers pets that exceed its cabin limits to Copa Mascotas. Its cargo team asks for loaded weight, kennel dimensions, breed, age and route; some origins require a certified freight agent. This is a separate booking process, not an automatic extension of a passenger reservation.

The English cargo page contains an age conflict: its general range starts at four months, yet a prohibited-breed paragraph mentions an exception below eight weeks. Do not rely on that exception to ship a young animal. Request confirmation of the current age, breed and route conditions.

We do not offer cargo for brachycephalic dogs. Our individual cabin-transport service assesses commercial-flight or private-flight arrangements subject to operator and entry acceptance.

4. Separate airline restrictions from US entry rules

Copa currently suspends dog carriage to BOS, BWI and RDU. This is an airline restriction. Its US checklist also contains CDC import-permit wording that should not replace the current CDC pathway.

Use the current CDC pathway based on vaccination location and the dog’s previous six months of travel. The low-risk pathway requires dogs to be at least six months old at entry; do not replace calendar months with a week conversion. Check the applicable high-risk pathway when relevant.

Keep airline acceptance, government entry permission and veterinary documents as separate checks. Our US dog-entry guide links the official preparation steps.

5. Resolve assistance-dog paperwork and seating separately

For service dogs above 10 kg, Copa’s top card requires an additional seat while its detailed text recommends one. Its English assistance-form link points to an ordinary-pet form.

Have the airline identify the correct form and seating arrangement for the actual itinerary before payment. On US-covered flights, service-dog placement is also subject to federal requirements, including an available alternative seat location in the same class before refusing an oversized service animal.

US DOT recognition requires a dog trained to perform disability-related tasks. Emotional-support status is not the same category. We do not use assistance status as a workaround for an ordinary pet’s size or breed.

Questions before you book

Does the displayed international pet fee cover my whole move?

Ask for the complete reservation total, including connections, return travel and taxes. Compare any managed-transport proposal by its included services rather than by an airline fee alone.

Does a referral to Copa Mascotas confirm cargo acceptance?

No. Have the cargo team review the animal, kennel, route and current conditions, including any origin-agent requirement. Our brachycephalic-dog service remains cabin-only.

Which US dog-entry checklist should I follow?

Use the current CDC pathway for the dog’s vaccination location and previous six months of travel, then check airline requirements separately.

Official sources and scope

Official sources checked October 12, 2026. Copa’s current Spanish and English passenger pages were read in a normally rendered public browser; text extraction returned an application shell. No policy-update date was displayed. The cargo and government sources were directly readable. Conflicting airline wording is identified rather than treated as superseded. No booking, live pet-space check or individual acceptance was obtained.
