Independent planning guidance, not a booking confirmation or complete government-entry checklist.
1. Reserve passenger-pet space
Request through live-agent chat or telephone, preferably immediately and at least 48 hours ahead; late requests risk refusal.
Cabin cats/dogs: one pet per passenger and kennel. Soft carrier maximum: 41 cm long × 25.4 cm wide × 21.5 cm high. The animal must stand, sit, turn and lie comfortably. Minimum age is eight weeks. No numeric cabin weight ceiling or flight quota was established.
Checked: 45 kg including kennel; maximum 101 × 68 × 81 cm (L/W/H), hard-sided. Per-flight kennel quotas are three on 737, two on 787, one on Dash 8; per-passenger animal maxima are six, four, two respectively. Two compatible, comparably sized, same-species animals up to 14 kg each may share, within the combined limit.
Checked pets are excluded December 18–January 4; other seasonal, destination and breed restrictions apply. Confirm exact-flight acceptance.

2. Budget for the journey
Published passenger-pet fees apply in each direction. Within Canada and the U.S., cabin carriage is $50–59 and checked carriage $100–118. Outside Canada and the U.S., the respective ranges are $100–118 and $200–236.
The fee page states CAD or USD according to journey origin, with local-currency conversion for departures outside those countries. Taxes vary by departure airport; GST applies to itineraries starting in Canada. Obtain the exact itinerary total and currency before paying. These are passenger-pet fees, not a cargo quote or a promise of space.
Ask about pet-specific cancellation, change and refund terms rather than assuming passenger-ticket conditions apply.

3. Separate airline acceptance from entry permission
WestJet’s entrance page excludes dogs/cats in cabin or checked kennels to, from or through Barbados, Hawaii, Iceland, Ireland, Jamaica, Glasgow and London. Its country sections sometimes use narrower directional wording. Obtain written acceptance for the complete itinerary rather than treating an omission or a one-direction statement as permission.
These are airline acceptance statements. They do not establish a government-wide prohibition or complete import eligibility. Check the responsible government authority for origin, destination and any transit, including current identification, vaccinations, certificates, permits and inspection arrangements. The airline links country authorities, but this guide has not independently verified their entry rules.

4. Arrange cargo separately
For domestic Canadian Pet Air, request a quote and booking from WestJet Cargo customer service. International imports/exports require an IPATA agent or freight forwarder. Cargo acceptance is separate from passenger-pet acceptance.
The domestic rate table lists a mini/small kennel at CAD 285, or CAD 370 for a brachycephalic kennel, excluding taxes and other applicable fees. Its approximate dimensions are 53 × 38 × 38 cm. Larger categories cost more. Confirm the animal, kennel, route, total and handover location before payment.
Two comparably sized cats or two dogs, each up to 14 kg, may share; mixed species cannot. A Shipper’s Certificate is mandatory; specified cases also require a veterinarian’s certificate.
The page states a $25 change/cancellation fee up to 48 hours before shipment, and no refund within 48 hours; confirm currency. Its holiday table exempts the 787, unlike the passenger checked-pet table. Keep these separate products distinct and obtain confirmation for holiday travel.

5. Before committing to travel
Ask for written acceptance identifying each animal, container and operating flight. Resolve breed suitability, seasonal conditions, airport handover time and the current commercial terms. Confirm disability-trained service-dog arrangements separately; this guide covers ordinary pet planning.
