What to check this week
For the week of October 5–11, this brief covers information verified through October 10. It brings together notices published this week, recent changes affecting current travel, and an approaching deadline. Each item keeps those dates separate.
October 7 · Australia opens an assistance-animal consultation
Australia opened consultation on the import pathway for assistance cats and dogs on October 7, with feedback due by November 4. Current import conditions still apply; the consultation does not create a new exemption.
For a planned move, keep using the current requirements. Read the consultation update.
October 5 · U.S.–New Zealand guidance updated
APHIS guidance updated on October 5 explains the identification process for U.S. dogs and cats arriving from April 1, 2027. Its six-month lead time can affect a spring move. Have the veterinary sequence checked before choosing flights. See the U.S. preparation steps.
October 17 ahead · Canada–EU commercial certificates
Use the current commercial certificate now. CFIA and European Commission guidance differ on the final date for issuing the previous model. If a shipment depends on that transition, obtain confirmation from CFIA and the receiving EU authority. Read the deadline clarification.
In force from October 1 · U.S.–Cayman certification
Cayman’s Department of Agriculture confirms that USDA-accredited veterinarians can still sign health certificates by hand. APHIS endorsement is optional. This clarification concerns the changes effective October 1. Read the current certificate guidance.
Connect the update to your journey
Send the departure country, destination, dates and pet details before committing to flights. These updates cover different routes and movement categories; the right preparation depends on the journey. Discuss your route and request a quote.
